BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced its volleyball postseason honors today as University of Tennessee at Martin senior outside hitter Kayla Bryant occupied a spot on the league's second team.
Bryant becomes just the ninth different Skyhawk to secure All-OVC second team honors and third in as many years, joining current teammate Kylie Surratt (2024) and former teammate Olivia Saunders (2023).
A Louisville, Ky. native, Bryant led the OVC in service aces (0.43 per set) while also elevating her game in league play, ranking in the top-10 with 3.64 points per set (ninth) and 3.19 kills per set (10th) against OVC opposition.
Overall, Bryant validated her Preseason OVC Player to Watch selection as she was one of just two UT Martin players to start in all 29 matches and play in all 107 sets in 2025. She dialed up team-highs of 298 kills (2.79 per set) and 46 service aces (seventh-most in Skyhawk single-season history) while chipping in 296 digs (2.77 per set), 38 assists and 15 blocks. She upped those numbers to 3.19 kills per set and 3.04 digs per set in OVC play, where 10 of her 11 double-doubles occurred (all coming over the last 15 matches of the season).
Bryant reached double figures in the kills column 16 times this fall, including a career-best 23 rally killers (on a scorching .409 hitting percentage) against Tennessee State on Nov. 14. Her season-high .444 attack percentage came one day earlier against the same Tennessee State squad as she managed 14 kills (against just two errors) in 27 swings. For her efforts in those two matches, she was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 17 – becoming the first UT Martin representative to pick up that honor since Sept. 5, 2022.
Defensively, Bryant came away with double-digit digs on 14 separate occasions, including season-highs of 21 scoops against both Western Illinois (Oct. 10) and Southern Indiana (Nov. 8).
Bryant also displayed some magic at the service line, going off for multiple service aces in 14 different matches (seven outings with three or more). She landed a season-best four service aces five times in a three-week span, accomplishing that feat against Chattanooga (Sept. 12), Memphis (Sept. 13), North Dakota (Sept. 19), Mercer (Sept. 20) and Lindenwood (Oct. 3).
For her remarkable four-year career, Bryant finished with 837 kills, 803 digs, 107 service aces (ninth-highest tally in program history), 113 assists and 73 blocks over 358 sets played in 110 matches.
