UT Martin Volleyball Plays Host To Three-Team, Two-Day Skyhawk Classic

MARTIN, Tenn. – Fresh off a riveting victory in its home opener on Tuesday, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad is in line for four more home matches this week at the Skyhawk Classic.
UT Martin joins Arkansas-Pine Bluff and West Georgia in the 2026 Skyhawk Classic event, which will be the eighth in-season tournament to be hosted by the program since 2011. UT Martin is 9-0 all-time against Arkansas-Pine Bluff but has only played the Lady Lions once at home (a 3-0 win on Sept. 6, 2024). The Skyhawks have only faced West Georgia once since transitioning to the NCAA Division I level in 1992 as the Wolves claimed a 3-0 victory on Sept. 19, 2025 in Macon, Ga.
The tournament starts on Friday, Sept. 18 as UT Martin will open the day against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at noon. Arkansas-Pine Bluff and West Georgia will then play at 3 p.m. before the Skyhawks collide against West Georgia at 6 p.m. Two matches are on tap for Saturday, Sept. 19 as UT Martin takes on West Georgia (11 a.m.) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2 p.m.).
The Skyhawks (1-6) played their most complete match of the season on Tuesday, downing Evansville in four sets in the program's home opener. The trio of Carly Mueller (15), Sophie Diouf (15) and Maddy Gladson (14) each set career-highs in kills while combining to hit .358 as UT Martin posted a season-best .257 attack percentage. Dylan Sulcer (career-best 41 assists) shined in her first start of the season at setter while Lauren Mariscal (career-high 21 digs) and Mia Saenz (season-best six blocks) set the tone for the Skyhawks defensively.
Members of the SouthWestern Athletic Conference, Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-7) is coming off a 1-2 weekend at the SIUE Cougar Classic. The Lady Lions fell by 3-0 margins to Ohio Valley Conference member SIUE and Northern Illinois before ending the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over Chicago State. Karli Glover led Arkansas-Pine Bluff in kills (18, 2.25 per set) and service aces (4, 0.50 per set) while ranking second in digs (16, 2.00 per set) during last weekend's event for fifth-year head coach Gabrielle Floyd.
West Georgia (3-6) won two out of three matches in its own UWG Volleyball Classic last weekend, defeating Gardner-Webb (3-1) and LSU New Orleans (3-0) before falling in five sets to Mercer. Brooke McCall became the first player in school history to be named United Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week after dialing up a team-high 40 kills (3.33 per set) while Giorgia Mandotti (team-best 12 service aces and 51 digs) and Anezka Ourednikova (114 assists, 9.50 per set) also stood out in the tournament for first-year head coach Adam Milewski.
