Zach Kersten joined the University of Tennessee at Martin athletic training staff in the summer of 2024. He primarily works with the Skyhawk men's basketball, soccer and softball programs while also providing assistance to all sports.
Kersten came to UT Martin from Mercy Sports Medicine in Branson, Mo., where he worked for almost two years. He worked directly with the prestigious Link Academy basketball program, who won the GEICO National High School Championship with a 27-1 overall record in 2023.
At Mercy Sports Medicine, Kersten spearheaded the establishment of a dynamic sports medicine department while driving the creation and implementation of innovative injury prevention and recovery programs. He skillfully managed the care and coverage of four high-level athletic programs, successfully navigating the complexities of simultaneous conflicting schedules. He provided exceptional care to 14 high school student-athletes who were ranked in the ESPN 100 (several of whom are currently in the NBA), ensuring their optimal health and performance on and off the field. He fostered a culture of wellness and peak athletic performance through comprehensive and personalized care strategies.
From 2020-22, Kersten worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. He orchestrated sports medicine coverage for the Valor baseball, volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, cheer, golf, tennis, track and field and football teams while providing evaluative, rehabilitative, preventative and emergent care.
Kersten graduated with a degree in athletic training with a biomedical sciences minor from Missouri State in 2020 and earned his Master's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Missouri State in 2022. He is married to Danielle Kersten from Liberty, Ill.
