MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team fell 15-3 to Little Rock in the series opener, however TJ Grines made history in the second inning by breaking the Ohio Valley Conference's single-season record for stolen bases with his 58th of the year.
Â
Grines added two hits and an RBI to his stat line while TJ Dunsford (triple, 2 RBIs), Andrew Davis (double) and JT Popick (double) collected multi-hit games. Andrew Lawrence also tacked on a double.
Â
Jacob Sitton (5-5) pitched 5.2 innings with two strikeouts while Silas Jones (1.1 innings), JP Nunn and Mason Little (no runs allowed) threw out of the bullpen.
Â
UT Martin (24-25, 9-13 OVC) responded to a Little Rock (29-21, 15-7 OVC) run in the bottom of the first with the first triple of the season by Dunsford that scored Colten Payton from first. Sitton tossed a scoreless second frame and the Skyhawk bats pulled the home team in front off a Grines RBI single.
Â
Little Rock would take the lead in the top of the third but were sat down in order in the fourth. After Sitton pitched a spotless fifth, an RBI single by Dunsford in the home half cut the UT Martin deficit down to four.
Â
The Trojans would add on to their lead in the next three innings and despite Tommy Koch's RBI single in the eighth, the Skyhawks would fall short in Game 1 of the weekend series.
Â
Senior Day for UT Martin is set for tomorrow at 3 p.m. with a pregame ceremony beginning at approximately 2:35 p.m.
