LEXINGTON, Ky. – Day 1 of the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational was suspended early as all 17 teams, including the University of Tennessee at Martin, could not complete its second round at the University Club of Kentucky.
Round 1 was delayed 90 minutes due to weather and by the time the 92-man field was gearing towards the end of the second round, darkness hovered over the course around 7 p.m. CT and forced play to a halt. The Skyhawks have 3-4 holes remaining in Round 2 and will continuously roll into the third and final round tomorrow.
UT Martin shot a 306 (+22) in the first round to rank 12th in the field. As play stands right now, the Skyhawks have jumped into eighth place in the standings behind a 10-over performance in Round 2.
Grant Phillips (three birdies) and Drew Williams (two birdies) each shot a team-best 76 (+5) in the first round for UT Martin. John-Gregory Wilson (two birdies and one eagle) and Bryce Harmon (team-high four birdies) each carded 77's (+6) to complete the team scoring.
Luke Caldwell (78, three birdies) was the fifth representative in the Skyhawk scoring lineup while Jaden Morrell (79, one birdie) is competing in the tournament as an individual.
Round 3 is set to begin at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow as Caldwell/Phillips are on the Hole No. 16. Williams and Wilson will resume on Hole No. 17 while Harmon and Morrell will continue from Hole No. 18 and Hole No. 15, respectively. The UT Martin scoring lineup is paired up with Kentucky, Marquette and Eastern Kentucky while Morrell is playing alongside representatives from Northern Kentucky, Belmont and Morehead State.
