
Ward Named as TSWA Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior outfielder Carly Ward of the University of Tennessee at Martin softball team has been named as the Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association, the organization announced Tuesday. She is the third Skyhawk this season to earn accolades from the TSWA, joining Avary Makarewicz and Sami Scholtz
Ward put up big numbers this past week as the Skyhawks went 3-1, including a sweep of Tennessee State. She went 8-for-13 overall at the plate and 8-for-10 with three walks in the series against Tennessee State. She also had a double and triple on the week, went 7-for-7 on the base paths and struck out just once in 17 plate appearances and 13 at-bats.
For the week, Ward hit .615, had an on-base percentage of .647 and a slugging percentage of .846 for an OPS of 1.493. She also drove in five runs while scoring four of her own over the four-game stretch.
On the season, Ward leads the Skyhawks and the Ohio Valley Conference in batting average at .433. She is currently slugging .500 with an on-base percentage of .470. She leads the team in hits with 39, has the second-most stolen bases with 11 and is one of five Skyhawks who have scored 20-plus runs this season at 22.
On Wednesday, Ward and the Skyhawks will travel to Starkville to take on 12th-ranked Mississippi State at Nusz Park at 5 p.m. The game will air live on SEC Network+.
