
Scholtz’s No-Hitter Earns TSWA Accolade

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sami Scholtz of the University of Tennessee at Martin softball team has been named as the Pitcher of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association, the organization announced Tuesday.
Scholtz threw the 11th no-hitter in UT Martin history in game one Friday against SEMO and the first seven-inning no-hitter since 2006. In game three Saturday, she carried a no-hitter 5.2 innings before allowing her first two hits of the week. She was an integral part of UT Martin's first three-game sweep of Southeast Missouri since 2016.
In total, she threw 12.2 consecutive innings without allowing a hit. She finished the week with a 1.11 ERA, a 2-0 record, a complete-game shutout, seven strikeouts, including six Saturday, a 0.47 WHIP and an opponent's batting average 0.50.
On the season, Scholtz leads the Skyhawk pitching staff with a 5-3 record, two saves and a 2.44 ERA. She averages 5.01 strikeouts per seven innings, has a strikeout to walk ratio of 1.6 and a team-low WHIP of 1.12. The Fenton, Missouri native has a total of 37 strikeouts on the year and is limiting opponents to a .184 batting average.
On Wednesday, Scholtz and the Skyhawks return to Bettye Giles Field for a midweek contest against Middle Tennessee at 1 p.m.
