
Second Half Surge Lifts Tennessee Past Skyhawks at Home Thursday

MARTIN, Tenn. – Despite leading at halftime, the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team was outscored by 14 in the second half and fell to Tennessee Tech, 80-68, Thursday night at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center in Martin.
With a Little Rock win and an SIUE loss, the Skyhawks are now locked into either the sixth or seventh seed in next week's Ohio Valley Conference Championship and will face either SIUE, Southeast Missouri or Tennessee Tech on Wednesday, Mar. 4 at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
UT Martin led by two at halftime and pushed the lead to four early in the third quarter. However, once Tennessee Tech took the lead with 7:31 to play in the third, they never relinquished it. The final deficit of 12 points was the largest lead of the game for Tennessee Tech.
The Skyhawks shot a blistering 62.5-percent from the floor in the first half Thursday, while holding the Golden Eagles to 35.1-percent. However, in the second half, it was Tennessee Tech with the hot hand, shooting 51.6-percent, compared to just 33.3-percent by UT Martin.
The Golden Eagles made an opponent's season high of 14 3-pointers in the game, while the Skyhawks made just four. Tennessee Tech also out-rebounded the Skyhawks Thursday, 41-33, and committed fewer turnovers at 14-11.
Kenley McCarn led the Skyhawks in the game with 21 points and six rebounds, marking her sixth 20-plus point performance this season. Grace Billington and Brittani Wells each had nine points in the contest, while Norah Clark, Sidni Middleton and Cam Ward each had eight points. Clark also had a team-high four blocks, tying her career-high.
On Saturday, the Skyhawks will close out the 2025-26 regular season when they welcome Tennessee State to the Elam Center for an early 10 a.m. tip-off.
