MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team finished the 2026 Skyhawk Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record by virtue of a 7-0 win over Mississippi Valley Saturday at Bettye Giles Field in Martin. After starting the season at 0-2, UT Martin has now won seven consecutive games.
"I'm really proud of this team for its mental fortitude," said head coach Chelsea Farmer. "We are continuing to push our own limits and working toward becoming the best team we can be, day in and day out, no matter our opponent. We've got some work left to do, but this is a group that wants to put that work in."
The Skyhawks dominated the Devilettes from the get-go, scoring seven runs on 11 hits with four of those going for extra bases. Avary Makarewicz went 2-for-3 on the day with two runs, a double, a home run and a RBI, as well as a walk. Karena Recrosio, Dylan Scott and Carly Ward also tallied two hits in the contest, while Kennedy Brown went 1-for-1 with two runs, two walks and four stolen bases.
In the circle, Joleanna Fox, Jordyn Hustey and Payton Harris combined for the shutout of Mississippi Valley. Hustey got the win by throwing 3.1 innings with no runs on one hit and six strikeouts, while Harris went 3.0 innings with no runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
Up next for the Skyhawks is the 2026 South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Feb. 20-22. While in Mobile, UT Martin will take on Loyola Chicago, West Georgia, North Alabama and the host Jaguars.
