BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Senior catcher Avary Makarewicz and senior utility player Dylan Scott of the University of Tennessee at Martin softball team have been named as OVC Players to Watch in advance of the 2026 season, the Ohio Valley Conference announced Thursday.
"Both Avary and Dylan were both really impacted by the season last year and went into the summer and fall more motivated than they've ever been," said head coach Chelsea Farmer.
"Offensively, Avary is in a completely different mindset and has increased her competitiveness at the plate and is motivated to do whatever it takes to help her team win. Behind the plate, Avary is key to our team's success and is the backbone that will help keep our pitching staff successful this year," said Farmer of Makarewicz.
On Scott, Farmer said, "Dylan's maturity on the field is crucial to our team's success this year, but her growth off the field is what will help our team the most. She is really stepping into a true leadership role this year."
In her first season as a Skyhawk, Makarewicz made an immediate impact, leading the team with eight home runs. She finished the season with a .244 batting average, 31 hits, 15 runs, 20 RBIs, 18 walks and eight stolen bases. As a catcher, she committed just three errors and threw out 11 batters.
Dylan Scott proved to be one of UT Martin's most consistent players last season, hitting .266 on the year. She had 33 hits, scored 20 runs, drove in 17 more and had six doubles, two triples and three home runs. In addition, she walked nine times and stole 11 bases.
The 2026 Skyhawks will begin their season Feb. 6-8 in DeLand, Florida at the Frank Griffin Classic hosted by Stetson. While in "The Sunshine State", UT Martin will face off against Indiana State, Seton Hall and the host Hatters.
