
Peters Receives Ohio Valley Conference Freshman Of The Week Accolades

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Ava Peters, a setter on the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad, has been voted as the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week.
This marks the second consecutive week where Peters has earned an OVC award as she was named the league's Setter of the Week last Monday. The River Falls, Wis. native becomes just the eighth player in school history to be named OVC Freshman of the Week and second in as many weeks (joining teammate Abby Freund) as the Skyhawks have produced back-to-back winners of that honor.
Peters had an impressive weekend at the Mercer Invitational, divvying out 90 assists (7.50 per set) to go along with 20 digs, five blocks and three service aces. She also tacked on 11 kills on a .212 hitting percentage over the course of three matches
In the tournament opener against North Dakota, Peters posted 32 assists, five kills and seven digs before adding five kills, 26 assists and seven digs later that afternoon against West Georgia. The following day against tournament host Mercer, she recorded 32 assists and six digs to go along with career-highs in service aces (two) and blocks (four).
Peters currently ranks sixth in the OVC in assists per set (7.92), handing out 285 assists on the season. She has additionally tallied 56 digs, 33 kills, 12 blocks and six service aces so far during her rookie campaign.
UT Martin opens OVC play on Wednesday, Sept. 24 as the Skyhawks make the short trip to Cape Girardeau, Mo. to take on Southeast Missouri. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
