BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Senior Kayla Bryant from the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team was spotlighted as the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week today.
This marks Bryant's first career OVC weekly award as the 5-10 outside hitter becomes only the ninth different player in school history to be crowned as the league's Offensive Player of the Week (first since Karen Scanlon on Sept. 5, 2022).
Bryant helped the Skyhawks to a home sweep over OVC in-state rival Tennessee State, defeating the Tigers in three sets on Thursday before a five-set triumph on Friday. She piled up 37 kills (4.63 per set) on a blistering .423 hitting percentage while adding 24 digs (3.00 per set) – just one scoop shy of a team-high. She also added five assists and three service aces while averaging 5.0 points per set.
During Thursday's match, Bryant delivered a whopping 14 kills against only two errors in 27 swings – good enough for a .444 attack percentage. She also pitched in eight digs and a pair of service aces. A little under 24 hours later on Senior Day, she generated a career-best 23 kills on a .409 hitting percentage, tacking on a team-best 16 digs for her 10th double-double of the season (ninth in the last 13 matches).
A Louisville, Ky. native, Bryant currently ranks second in the OVC with 0.42 service aces per set. In conference play, she ranks 10th in the league in both kills (3.20 per set) and points (3.61 per set). Overall, her 279 kills (2.76 per set) and 42 service aces pace UT Martin while her 282 digs (2.79 per set) rank second on the squad.
The Skyhawks conclude the 2025 regular season this week with a road series at Morehead State, dueling the Eagles at 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 18 and 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
