BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – With the start of the regular season looming next week, the Ohio Valley Conference recognized a pair of University of Tennessee at Martin standouts as part of its 2025 preseason volleyball accolades. Skyhawk sophomore Kylie Surratt was noted as one of 10 returning All-OVC players this fall while senior Kayla Bryant earned a spot on the 11-member OVC Watch List.
A 6-0 outside hitter, Surratt is coming off one of the best freshman campaigns in school history. She managed All-OVC second team accolades in 2024, becoming just the third freshman in UT Martin's NCAA Division I Era (since 1992), to pace the squad in kills (292). The Maryland Heights, Mo. native ranked seventh in the league in kills per set (3.18) and eighth in points per set (3.52) in OVC play, bringing home a school-record three OVC Freshman of the Week nods. She topped the Skyhawks in kills on 15 separate occasions, slamming down at least 15 kills nine times to go along with a pair of double-doubles.
Bryant ranked second on the UT Martin squad in kills (212, 2.36 per set) a year ago while tacking on 203 digs (2.23 per set). She also led the Skyhawks with 27 service aces and ranked ninth in the OVC in service aces per set (0.30) during league competition. All four of Bryant's double-doubles came against OVC rivals in 2024 as the 5-10 outside hitter out of Louisville, Ky. paced UT Martin in kills nine times last fall. She enters the 2025 campaign as the Skyhawks' most experienced player with 81 matches, 539 kills, 61 service aces, 507 digs (all team-highs) in her storied three-year career.
The duo of Surratt and Bryant are part of nine returners and three starters who are back for head coach Jaclynn Wilson's 11th season at the helm of UT Martin volleyball. The Skyhawks host Southern Illinois for a 2 p.m. exhibition this Saturday, Aug. 23 before officially opening the 2025 campaign on Aug. 30 against Big East Conference member Seton Hall in Nashville, Tenn.
