MARTIN, Tenn. – With a mix of regional foes and SEC powers, the 2025 University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team will be tested early and often with the highly competitive schedule announced by head coach Mike Varga Monday.
"We are going to see where we stand right from the start," said Varga. "This is no doubt one of the hardest schedules in the OVC this fall. The good thing is that we have quite a few quality home non-conference matches mixed in with some very difficult road matches. The idea behind the non-conference schedule is to prepare us for what I think will be a very balanced, competitive OVC. I have a lot of confidence in this group and know that they are up to the task and ready to compete no matter who we line up against. "
This season's schedule features three SEC teams, including a pair of top-ten squads, four Missouri Valley teams and a pair of former OVC foes, all in the run-up to the gauntlet that is the Ohio Valley Conference schedule. The Skyhawks will play 11 of their 19 matches at Skyhawk Field this season, with the home opener set for August 17 against Arkansas State.
UT Martin unofficially opens its season at Arkansas August 5 with their lone exhibition of the season. Nine days later on August 14, the 2025 campaign officially gets underway in Starkville when the Skyhawks visit Mississippi State. The Razorbacks and Bulldogs finished the 2024 season ninth and 10th in the nation, respectively.
The rest of UT Martin's non-conference home slate includes North Alabama (Aug. 21), Austin Peay (Aug. 24), Illinois State (Aug. 31), Murray State (Sept. 4) and Evansville (Sept. 4). Road non-conference matches include Ole Miss (Aug. 28), Memphis (Sept. 7) and Southern Illinois (Sept. 14).
On September 20, the Skyhawks begin their 28th season of OVC play when they welcome Southern Indiana to Skyhawk Soccer Field for the league opener. Other OVC home matches include Eastern Illinois (Sept. 28), Little Rock (Oct. 9), Western Illinois (Oct. 19) and the Senior Day season finale October 16 against SIUE. The Skyhawks will play their OVC road matches at Lindenwood (Sept. 25), Southeast Missouri (Oct. 5), Tennessee Tech (Oct. 12) and Morehead State (Oct. 16).
The season will wrap up with the 2025 OVC Women's Soccer Championship October 30 through Nov. 9. The third through eighth seeds will play on the campuses of the third and fourth seeds October 30 and November 2, followed by top two seeds and two remaining teams from the first weekend playing for the title and a trip to the NCAA tournament November 6 and 8 on the campus of the No. 1 seed.
