
Skyhawks Series Finale With SIUE Canceled

MARTIN, Tenn.- Due to field conditions caused by the weather from the night before, the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team's series finale with SIUE has been canceled.

Ten seniors were scheduled to be recognized prior to the contest including Jeb Bartle, Kaleb Baskin, Blaze Bell, Rett Edwards, Jalen Fithian, Austin Gast, J. Henry Hobson, Frank Micallef, Shawn Perez and Arderrius Townsend.

Bartle was a two-year member of the program and made 39 appearances and 12 starts. On the field, he struck out 96 batters thru 117 innings pitched while collecting three wins and three saves. This season he's fanned 51 batters while only surrendering 15 walks. Off the field, he's a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Baskin is a two-year member of the program making 37 appearances over his Skyhawk career. On the field, he's collected three saves and three wins while striking out 31 batters. This season the righty has fanned 26 batters in 35 innings and owns three saves. Off the field, he's a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Bell is a five-year member of the program, making 166 starts in 172 games played. On the field he is an All-OVC Second Teamer and All-Freshman team member. He ranks second all-time in doubles, fifth in putouts, seventh in RBIs and hits. Off the field he is a four-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Edwards is a two-year member of the program, making nine appearances throughout his career as a Skyhawk. A transfer from Calhoun Community College, he's fanned seven batters in a UT Martin uniform. Off the field he's a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Fithian is a two-year member of the program making 105 starts and playing 107 games. At the plate, he has compiled a career batting average of .300 with 27 doubles and 42 RBIs. He's the UT Martin Division I single season record holder in stolen bases with 37. Off the field, he's a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Gast has been a member of the program for one season, making 21 appearances while starting one game. On the field he's thrown 25.2 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts while earning a win against Georgia State on February 23rd.

Hobson is a four-year member of the program, making 45 appearances and starting five games through his career. In 87.1 innings pitched, he's recorded three saves, three wins and 56 strikeouts. Off the field he is a seven-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a member of the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Micallef is a two-year member of the program, making 16 starts and playing in 25 games through his career. He's driven in 12 runs with 13 hits and hit his first UT Martin home run against Tennessee Tech on April 27th. Off the field, he's a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Perez is a two-year member of the program with 11 appearances on the bump. On the field he's recorded seven strikeouts in 11 innings while pitching four outings without an earned run allowed. Off the field he's a two-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Townsend is one-year member of the program with 44 starts and 45 games played this season. He's blasted 14 home runs while driving in 36 RBIs and batting .342. His 14 long balls put him in a tie for sixth-most in a single season at UT Martin. His biggest swing came in the form of a walk-off grand slam against Samford back on March 9th.
The Skyhawks have earned the number seven seed in the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championships in Marion, Ill. at Mtn Dew Park. This is the third consecutive year UT Martin has qualified for the postseason.
