Â
Three players had multi-hit games for the Skyhawks including Brody Capps (one walk, run scored), Blaze Bell (two RBIs, double) and Jonah Katsaboulas (double, RBI). Frank Micallef (one hit), Garner Anderson (one walk) and Cameron Greene (two walks) drove in runs while Jalen Fithian (one walk), Arderrius Townsend (one walk) and JT Popick (one walk) were able to get on base.
Â
Brandon King started the day for UT Martin (12-20) striking out three over four innings. Mason Shropshire (one inning, no hits, no runs, one strikeout), Kaleb Baskin (one inning, two strikeouts), Jeb Bartle (one inning pitched, one strikeout) and JP Nunn (0-2, 1.2 innings pitched, one strikeout) toed the rubber out of the bullpen.
Â
King started the day with a scoreless frame from a fielder's choice, strikeout and pop out to first. It was a 1-2-3 inning in the second for the righty after he forced a pop out, fanned another batter and got another to fly out to left center. Three flyouts in the third helped King begin his outing with three straight innings without a run allowed.
Â
The Bruins (14-20) broke through in the fourth but wouldn't bring a run home in the fifth when Shropshire induced two flyouts and fanned the final batter of the frame. The Skyhawks exploded with a six-run sixth inning to pull in front for the first time. Bell had a friendly bounce over the right field wall to bring in two on a ground rule double. Katsaboulas plated Townsend on a sacrifice fly to bring the score even at three. Micallef broke the tie off an RBI single to left to pull UT Martin in front, then two bases loaded walks by Anderson and Greene extended the advantage to three.
Â
Belmont drove in two in the home half of the sixth to pull within one before Bartle shut them out in the seventh from two groundouts and a punchout. The Bruins knotted things up in the eighth and brought in the game-winning run off a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.
Â
The Skyhawks will gear up for the weekend series against Western Illinois which will start Friday, April 11 at 5 p.m.
