Xoinis Earns Co-Medalist Honors As UT Martin Advances To Match Play Round At OVC Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Jonathan Xoinis etched his name in history today as the University of Tennessee at Martin redshirt senior tied for first place at the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference Championships held at Dalhousie Golf Club.
A Chattanooga, Tenn. native, Xoinis shot an even-par 72 today to finish with a 54-hole tally of 210 (-6) – tying Little Rock's Rhett South for co-medalist accolades. Xoinis becomes just the fourth Skyhawk to win an OVC Tournament crown, joining the elite company of Jack Story (2021) plus UT Martin Hall of Famers Hunter Richardson (2016 and 2017) and Brendon Caballero (2015).
On the team side, the Skyhawks placed third in stroke play – earning the right to play for the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals. UT Martin shot a 289 (+1) today to finish at 858 (-6), trailing only Little Rock (847, -17) and Lindenwood (854, -10). Morehead State (870, +6) is the fourth and final team to take part in the OVC match play round tomorrow.
Xoinis (three of his four birdies on the back-nine), Grant Phillips (two birdies, 2-under par over the final 16 holes) and Garrett Chumley (all three birdies on the back-nine) each generated even-par 72's today while Luke Caldwell's 73 (co-team-high four birdies) completed the team scoring while Jackson Twerdahl (two birdies) posted a 77.

Overall, Phillips and Caldwell each tied for 14th place in the individual standings with a 217 (+1). Twerdahl ranked just outside the top-20 with a 219 (+3) while Chumley climbed eight spots to place 30th with a total score of 223 (+7).
The Skyhawks completed stroke play ranking first in the tournament in par-4 scoring (4.05, +7) and fewest double bogeys or worse (six). UT Martin additionally placed second in par-5 scoring (4.72, -17), eagles (two) and pars (161) while its 52 birdies ranked third in the field.
Individually, Xoinis led the tournament in par-4 scoring (3.90, -3) while ranking fourth with 14 birdies. He and Phillips shared the team lead in par-3 scoring (3.08, +1) while Phillips' 36 pars were the third-most in the field. Chumley also ranked third in the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.58, -5).
The Skyhawks will take on Lindenwood in tomorrow's first round of match play. UT Martin will be teeing off Hole No. 10 as Phillips gets the Skyhawks going at 8:02 a.m. Caldwell is next up at 8:10 and is followed by Chumley (8:18), Twerdahl (8:26) and Xoinis (8:34). The two team winners of match play then advance to the finals, which will take place at approximately 1 p.m.
