
UT Martin Continues Homestand With Three-Game Tilt Against Morehead State

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team will continue its season-long seven-game homestand with Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State. Game 1 of the three-game set will be on Thursday, April 17 at 5 p.m. with Game 2 taking place on Friday, April 18 at 3 p.m. Saturday's series finale is scheduled for April 19 at 1 p.m.

UT Martin (13-22, 4-7 OVC) comes into the week batting .304 in conference play (third in OVC) while tallying a slugging mark in league play of .439 (fourth). Overall, the Skyhawks are first in stolen bases (79), third in triples (11), batting average (.283) and fourth in slugging percentage. The UT Martin arms are allowing the third fewest home runs overall (32) and fourth fewest earned runs in conference play (70).

Arderrius Townsend has a season-best 17-game on-base streak while Jalen Fithian leads the team in doubles (12) and stolen bases (21). Brody Capps' 16 RBIs in OVC play rank him in fifth place in that category and Blaze Bell is batting a team-best .318 average. In conference contests, Jordan Hudson bats .346 and has an on-base percentage of .419.

Junior right-hander Jacob Sitton owns a 2.70 ERA in league play (eighth in OVC) over 26.2 innings pitched (third most in conference). Mason Shropshire boasts a 1.59 ERA against conference foes and Jeb Bartle (2.08 ERA) has fanned 12 batters compared to just one walk in OVC play. Kaleb Baskin touts a .266 opposing batting average which is tops on the team out of the bullpen.

Morehead State (11-23, 1-11 OVC) has crushed the second-most home runs in the OVC (48) and holds a slugging percentage of .439 (second). Conference RBI-leader Hunter Thomas (37) has belted 13 long balls on the year (tied for 27th nationally) and ranks inside the top-five in the OVC in OPS (fourth, 1.032). On the mound, graduate righty Grant Herron's 29 strikeouts in league play are the most in the conference.

For Game 1, UT Martin will start Sitton (1-2, 4.75 ERA) and the Eagles will roll with lefty freshman Kamden Hawks (0-4, 5.29). In Friday's contest, Skyhawk junior southpaw Zach Wager (3-5, 5.66) toes the rubber against Herron (0-1, 4.26). For the series finale, UT Martin right-hander Brandon King (1-1, 6.50) matches up with Morehead State sophomore righty Bradley Poynter (2-2, 7.40).
