Skyhawks To Host Southern Illinois On Tuesday

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team will start a two-game midweek series with Missouri Valley Conference foe Southern Illinois Tuesday, March 25Â at 5 p.m. with the first game set at Skyhawk Field.

UT Martin (10-13) enters the week winners of four of its last five games including a series victory over defending Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champion Southeast Missouri. In five contests last week, the Skyhawks batted .405 (68 hits) with 58 RBIs, 65 runs scored, slugged .589 and had an on-base percentage of .483. UT Martin was also active on the base paths going 10-13 on stolen bases.

As a team, the Skyhawks have six players batting over .300 with TJ Grines leading the team hitting a crisp .400 (sixth best average in the OVC). Grines continues to top the conference in stolen bases (15) while Brody Capps' 26 RBIs are second most in the league. Reigning OVC Player of the Week Cameron Greene carries a hot bat into Tuesday's contest as he produced a slash lie of .533/.579/1.067 over his last five games. Catcher Tommy Koch has put opposing baserunners on notice, the redshirt sophomore has thrown out a conference-best 11 would-be base stealers.

On the mound, Jeb Bartle and Kaleb Baskin have combined for a 32-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio while Zach Wager (two wins) and Quin Long (opposing batting average of .250) have put together solid performances out of the bullpen.

Southern Illinois (15-7) collected back-to-back walk off winners over UIC in its weekend series at Itchy Jones Stadium. The Salukis have belted out 39 home runs (18th most in the country) while collecting a 5.76 ERA (second in the MVC). Gabe Petrucelli (fourth, .698 SLG), John Lemm (fifth, .656), Matt Schark (seventh, .644) and Jordan Bach (ninth, .632) all rank inside the conference's top-10 in slugging percentage. Pitcher Alec Nigut is sixth nationally in ERA with a 0.99 and Meade Johnson has struck out a team-high 30 batters.
