MERIDIAN, Miss. – The University of Tennessee at Martin cowgirls generated its second victory of the 2024-25 campaign as the Skyhawk women's squad won in an abbreviated rodeo hosted by East Mississippi.
The decision was made by Ozark Region officials on Friday morning to declare the rodeo as a one-header, cancelling Saturday's short go round for safety considerations due to the forecasted inclement weather in the area.
When all was said and done, the UT Martin women's team ranked atop the standings with 360.2 points, defeating Missouri Valley College by 39.2 points. It marked the second win of the season for the Skyhawk cowgirls, who also chalked up a victory at Southern Arkansas on Oct. 10-12.
On the men's side, UT Martin tallied 88 points for a seventh-place finish.
A trio of Skyhawk cowgirls achieved points in the breakaway roping event. Emma Kate Wilder's time of 2.2 seconds was good enough for second place while Anna Wilder and Josie Luttrell each split sixth after clocking in at 3.2.
Noah Beshears and Tate Ondrik each accounted for points in calf roping. Beshears' time of 12.4 seconds split fifth while Ondrik split eighth following a time of 12.7.
Two UT Martin duos received points in team roping, paced by Beshears and Caleb Dunn placing fourth with a time of 7.9 seconds. Emma Kate and Anna Wilder also finished eighth in the event as the sisters out of Millington, Tenn. compiled a time of 14.0 seconds flat.
Savannah Moran set the tone in barrel racing as her time of 14.63 seconds was the best in the field.
The Skyhawks are back in action for the third straight weekend to open their spring slate, traveling to Poplarville, Miss. for a rodeo hosted by Pearl River on Thursday, March 20 through Saturday, March 22.
