UT Martin Begins 2025-26 Season Tomorrow At UNLV
11/3/2025 11:23:00 AM | Men's Basketball
MARTIN, Tenn. – Year Two of the Jeremy Shulman Era at the University of Tennessee at Martin begins with a road trip to UNLV as the Skyhawk men's basketball squad takes on the Runnin' Rebels in the 2025-26 season opener. Tipoff at the Thomas & Mack Center is set for 9 p.m. CT.

UT Martin returns seven players from last season, five of which started at least six contests. That list includes Ohio Valley Conference "Players to Watch" Afan Trnka (8.3 points per game, team-best 97 assists) and Lamine Niang (team-highs of 58.4 field goal percentage and 26 blocks).

A total of 12 newcomers are set to make their Skyhawk debuts in 2025-26, including nine combined freshmen (one redshirt, eight true). The nine rookies are the most in UT Martin history and also trail only New Haven (11) for the most in NCAA Division I men's basketball.

The Skyhawks also tout the most international student-athletes (13) in the NCAA Division I men's basketball ranks for the second straight season. Overall, 11 different countries are represented on UT Martin's 2025-26 roster.

The Skyhawks will look for their second straight season-opening road victory as UT Martin defeated eventual CollegeBasketballInsider.com (CBI) champion Illinois State by a 67-65 margin exactly a year ago from its 2025-26 tipoff date.

UNLV returns just one player from last season as former Memphis and Georgia Tech head coach Josh Pastner takes over the reins of the traditional Mountain West Conference powerhouse. Eight NCAA Division I transfers - four from Power 4 conferences - are part of 13 newcomers on the Runnin' Rebel roster.

Illinois transfer Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn guided UNLV in scoring in both of its exhibition outings, averaging 22.5 points (on 63 percent shooting) per contest against Washington and Lincoln. Naas Cunningham, a transfer from Alabama, averaged 17.0 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per game during the preseason.

Tomorrow's game will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network. A link to watch the game and a link for live stats can be found at the top of the webpage.
