MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team looks to stay hot when it opens a three-game road swing through the Sunshine State against the Florida State Seminoles. Tipoff on Tuesday, Nov. 18 is set for 6 p.m. CT at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Skyhawk and Seminole programs are linked by Leonard Hamilton, who was the first African-American student-athlete in UT Martin history in 1969 before his trailblazing coaching career ended with his retirement from Florida State last season. Hamilton will be recognized as part of a halftime ceremony during this contest as he won 674 games at the college and professional level over five decades.
This week, the Skyhawks are returning to a state where their head coach Jeremy Shulman won 346 games over 14 seasons at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne. He claimed 11 conference championships from 2010-24 before taking over the reins at UT Martin last season. The 2025-26 Skyhawks are off to one of their best starts in school history, beginning a season with three consecutive victories for just the second time in the last 36 years.
UT Martin is coming off a 78-67 victory last Wednesday at Bradley, who won 28 games and went to the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals a year ago. Andrija Bukumirović pumped in 20 points, sharing the team lead with Matas Deniusas - who became the first Skyhawk rookie to register at least 20 points since 2021. Dragos Lungu chipped in 11 points while Filip Petkovski had 10 points, eight assists and six rebounds - becoming the first UT Martin freshman to distribute at least eight assists against a NCAA Division I opponent since Nov. 25, 2008.
The Seminoles (2-1) are coming off a tight 78-76 road setback at defending national champion Florida last Tuesday. Robert McCray V poured in a game-high 29 points with four assists and three steals while Kobe Magee (14 points, team-best nine rebounds) and Chauncey Wiggins (11 points) also scored in double digits for head coach Luke Loucks, who is in his first season guiding his alma mater.
