MARTIN, Tenn. – For the final time this season, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad will play in front of its home crowd as the Skyhawks host in-state Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee State at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 and 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14.
Senior Day festivities will take place before Friday's series finale as UT Martin seniors Kayla Bryant and Kristin Phillips will be recognized for their career contributions. Both players were members of the 2022 team that brought home the program's first OVC regular season championship in 20 years and have combined for 1,239 kills, 128 assists, 121 service aces, 855 digs and 238 blocks over the course of their Skyhawk careers.
A 5-10 outside hitter out of Louisville, Ky., Bryant currently leads the OVC with 0.42 service aces per set and ranks just outside the all-time top-10 in UT Martin history with 100 career aces. She tops the Skyhawks with 242 kills this fall and has compiled 781 kills (2.32 per set) with 765 digs (2.28 per set) in four years, leading to 20 career double-doubles. Nine of those double-doubles have occurred this season, including eight such feats in the last 11 matches.
Phillips has already achieved new career-high tallies in service aces, digs and blocks in 2025, ranking second on the squad in the latter statistical category. The best match of her career came earlier this season in a victory over Lamar as she slammed down a career-high 15 kills on a .303 hitting percentage. The 6-2 middle blocker from Orient, Ohio has started in 61 consecutive matches dating back to 2023 and has registered 458 kills with 166 blocks in her career.
UT Martin is 43-17 all-time against the Tigers, including a 22-6 mark inside Skyhawk Fieldhouse. UT Martin has won 11 of the last 12 meetings against Tennessee State and has not lost a home match to the Tigers since 2014.
Tennessee State is in search of its first win since Sept. 5 as the Tigers have dropped 24 straight decisions heading into their final two matches of the season. Maygan Miller-Garcia paces Tennessee State in kills (190, 2.04 per set) and blocks (64, 0.69 per set) while Sagaia Reilly leads the Tigers in assists (551, 5.80 per set) and service aces (20, 0.21 per set). The Tennessee State defense is headed by Erini Bitsaktsi, who has scooped up a team-best 304 digs (3.27 per set).
