
UT Martin Battles But Drops Home Decision To No. 2 South Carolina

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin competed throughout today against the No. 2 ranked team in the nation but the Skyhawks fell by a 15-4 margin to South Carolina at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
UT Martin accounted for two victories in reining, one win (plus a tie) in flat and one triumph in horsemanship. Five career-high scores were set today by the Skyhawks, four of which came during the flat event.
Abby Tibbits registered her team-best third victory of the season with a 71-point effort in reining, which was also good enough for her second straight win of the weekend. Payton Bundy also made it 2-for-2 in weekend victories as her 69.5-point performance led to a win. Elise Mason (71), Claire Carpenter (70) and Stevie Brown (67.5) additionally represented UT Martin in the reining lineup today.
In flat, Lydia Jordan nabbed her team-high third win of the season and second in as many days with a career-best 86 points. Shelby Davis remained unbeaten in her last three head-to-head duels as her 84 points tied her Gamecock competitor. Kate Mills reached a career-high with 82 points and was followed by Kathleen DeGenova (78 points) and Abigail Karl, who made her collegiate debut with a career-best 76 points.
Kailyn Veale won her second decision in 48 hours with 74.5 points in horsemanship. Ruby Gunderson equaled Veale with a career-high 74.5 points with Olivia Wynn not following too far behind with a 74-point ride. Carpenter produced a score of 71 points while Ava Newsom managed a score of 69.5 to complete the Skyhawks' horsemanship scoring five.
Averey Pritchard's 82 points ranked as a team-high in fences as she was followed by Audrey Morris (81), Mills (80), DeGenova (78) and Daphne Stavig (74).
UT Martin finishes up its fall slate next weekend, traveling to Delton, Del. for a pair of Eastern College Athletic Conference matchups. The Skyhawks will take on UC Davis on Friday, Nov. 7 and Delaware State on Saturday, Nov. 8.
