MARTIN, Tenn. – The first two of six University of Tennessee at Martin home equestrian meets in 2025-26 will occur this weekend as the Skyhawks take on South Dakota State at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 and No. 2 South Carolina at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1.
UT Martin will be making its first official appearance inside the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex since winning the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship tournament in March. The Skyhawks will look to avenge an early season loss to the Jackrabbits while hosting the Gamecocks for the first time since Oct. 28, 2022.
Because of recent heavy rainfall in the area, the flat portion of both UT Martin events will take place at nearby Graves Stables on campus. The fences, horsemanship and reining events will remain inside the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
The Skyhawks will be back in action for the first time since opening their season on Oct. 4, splitting against Minnesota-Crookston (won 10-6) before falling to South Dakota State (lost 10-7). UT Martin brought home six head-to-head victories in fences while claiming five wins in horsemanship, four triumphs in reining and a pair of points in flat. The Skyhawks also earned one MOP medal in all four events during its season-opening weekend.
Averey Pritchard (team-best 81.0 scoring average) and Kate Mills are each 2-0 while freshman Daphne Stavig accounts for an MOP honor in fences. Shelby Davis tops UT Martin in scoring average (77.0), MOP's (one) and victories (one) in flat while Lydia Jordan also claimed a victory in that event to wrap up the Skyhawk Jumping Seat leaders.
In Western, Olivia Wynn (team-high 75.5 scoring average, one MOP) and Ruby Gunderson both went 2-0 in horsemanship to begin the 2025-26 campaign. Claire Carpenter and Elise Mason are both unbeaten (matching 1-0-1 records) in reining with Mason picking up MOP accolades so far this season.
Following UT Martin's matchup against South Dakota State on Friday, the Jackrabbits and South Carolina will compete in horsemanship, flat and reining – starting at approximately 3:25 p.m. Their meet will start back up with fences at 9 a.m. on Saturday before the Skyhawks close out the busy weekend against the Gamecocks.
