
Skyhawks Host Murray State In First Home Match Saturday, Sunday

MARTIN, Tenn. – The 19th-ranked University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team hosts Murray State Saturday and Sunday at the Skyhawk Rifle Range for its first home match of the season. The match will take place over two days with smallbore being shot Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by air rifle Sunday, also at 9 a.m.
The Skyhawks fired a 2286 smallbore and a 2330 to finish at 4616 in their season opener on Oct. 5 at Murray State. Sophomores Sophia Ashford and Liam Tegeler led UT Martin in the match, with Ashford firing personal bests in all three categories and Tegeler eclipsing his career marks in both smallbore and aggregate scoring. Ashford shot a 576 smallbore and a 587 air rifle for an 1161 aggregate, while Tegeler used a 584 smallbore and a 577 air rifle to shoot an 1161 aggregate, as well.
Freshman Olivia Harvey had a big first collegiate match, shooting a 571 in smallbore and a 579 in air rifle for an 1150 aggregate. Aubrey Chenoweth was also solid for the Skyhawks using a 560 smallbore and a 582 air rifle for an 1142 aggregate, as was Joey Kovach at 570 in smallbore and 582 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1152. Rachel Haines rounded out the day for UT Martin as she used a 561 smallbore and a 577 air rifle for an 1138 aggregate.
Following the match against the Racers, the Skyhawks will travel to Morehead State to take on the Eagles in two matches on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
