The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will open Ohio Valley Conference play when hosting new league foe Western Illinois for a three-game series beginning on Sunday, March 10. The Skyhawks will play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. before capping off the series on Monday, March 11 at 11 a.m.
The Skyhawks (12-8, 0-0 OVC) enter league play after winning four consecutive games last week and six of their last seven games. UT Martin boasts a .305 batting average as a team while tallying 25 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 93 RBIs.
Kaci Fuller paces the Skyhawks with a .431 batting average while tallying four doubles, three triples, two home runs, 15 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Katie Dreiling ranks second on the team with a .361 batting average, six doubles and a team-high 19 RBIs while Alli Robinson has been impressive in her debut season with a .346 average, four doubles and 10 RBIs.
The pitching staff is anchored by Brooklynn Linneman (4-2, 1.52 ERA) and Dreiling (4-2, 3.06 ERA) who have combined to pitch 66.2 innings this season.
Western Illinois (9-10, 0-0 OVC) won three of four games last week – knocking off Green Bay twice and Bellarmine once. Rylee Boone leads the team with a .355 batting average while Bella Alvarez boasts a .333 batting average with two home runs and 14 RBIs. The Leathernecks feature three starters in the circle with Lillie Wools (2-4, 2.20 ERA), Emily Price (3-5, 2.66 ERA) and Raven Morrison (4-1, 2.75 ERA) carrying the load.
UT Martin leads the all-time series against Western Illinois by a 3-0 margin. The two squads met twice in Martin back in 2017 while meeting on a neutral field in 2018.
