No. 10 Skyhawk Equestrian All Set For Busy Home-Opening Weekend

MARTIN, Tenn. – The first two matchups of a three-meet homestand for the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team will take place this weekend at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex. The No. 10 ranked Skyhawks host Eastern College Athletic Conference foe UC Davis at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 before battling No. 5 Oklahoma State at noon on Saturday, Oct. 19.
UT Martin's first meet is a rematch of the last two ECAC Championship finals as the Aggies narrowly edged out the Skyhawks by a 13-7 margin in Rancho Murieta, Calif. last season after claiming a 10-8 win in Brookings, SD in 2023. UT Martin has defeated UC Davis in each of its last two visits to the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex, winning by scores of 10-8 (Feb. 10, 2024) and 11-8 (Feb. 11, 2022).
This marks the fourth straight season that UT Martin has squared off against the Gamecocks. The last time that South Carolina traveled to the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex was Oct. 28, 2023 as the Gamecocks escaped with a 10-9 win.
The Skyhawks will be in action for the first time since opening their season with a split against now No. 7 Fresno State (lost 8-7) and South Dakota State (won 15-5) on Oct. 5 in Brookings, SD.
UT Martin has found its most success in reining in 2024-25, going 8-0-1 during its nine head-to-head matchups. Logan Putvinski is 2-0 with one MOP in the event while Elise Mason also snared a MOP medal in her only meet so far. Aubrey Malone and Kate Davis are additionally 2-0 in that event this season.
Defending National Collegiate Equestrian Association first team All-American Lexi Bailey has carried over her dominance into the 2024-25 campaign as she is 2-0 with one MOP in reining this season. Mia McAfoos joins Bailey as Skyhawk riders with an unblemished 2-0 mark in that event so far in 2024-25.
In Jumping Seat, UT Martin has claimed five victories in fences and three head-to-head wins in flat. Reigning ECAC Fences Freshman of the Year Kate Mills is responsible for an unbeaten 2-0 record in that event while tacking on a victory in flat. Gabby Adams also captured a MOP in flat during the Skyhawks' road triumph at South Dakota State, tallying a career-best 85 points – the most by any UT Martin rider in that event this season.
