
SKYHAWK MEN'S BASKETBALL PAYS A VISIT TO OVC NEWCOMER LINDENWOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY TOMORROW

MARTIN, Tenn. – A mere nine days since facing each other for the first time in 43 years, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team and Lindenwood wrap up their season series at Robert F. Hyland Arena. Tipoff on Saturday, Feb. 4 is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's contest as part of a doubleheader.
The Skyhawks defeated their new Ohio Valley Conference foe back on Jan. 26 in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center but had to overcome an eight-point deficit midway through the second half. UT Martin used a swarming defense that restricted the Lions to a total of 13 combined points during the first and last 10 minutes of the game in a 66-59 victory.
Jordan Sears and KJ Simon shared the team lead in scoring with 16 points apiece while Simon also snared a game-high 10 rebounds for the first double-double of his senior campaign. Jalen Myers' 11 points provided the Skyhawks with some scoring punch off the bench as Lindenwood committed 11 of its 16 turnovers over the final 20 minutes.
UT Martin (15-9, 7-4 OVC) is coming off its first setback since Jan. 14 as it fell 89-75 at SIUE on Thursday evening. In that game, Sears (team-highs of 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists) paved the way while Simon (13), Desmond Williams (10) and Myers (10) additionally reached double digits in the scoring column.
The Lions (8-16, 3-8 OVC) snapped a seven-game losing streak on Thursday, downing Eastern Illinois by an 80-67 margin at home. Kevin Caldwell, Jr. dialed up game-highs of 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting (including 5-for-6 from three-point range) and six assists while Keenon Cole tacked on 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Chris Childs and Cam Burrell added 16 and 12 points, respectively, for Lindenwood, who shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from beyond the three-point arc.
Cole registered a game-high 19 points and team-best eight rebounds against the Skyhawks earlier this year while Tommie Williams accounted for 11 points.
