UT MARTIN SOFTBALL OPENS SEASON PREPARATIONS WITH START OF OFFICIAL PRACTICE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team has opened preparations for its 2023 campaign with the start of official practice.
The Skyhawks open their preseason under fourth-year head coach Brian Dunn. The squad retained a large portion of its potent offensive attack from last season with the return of seven offensive starters. UT Martin is looking to build upon an impressive 2022 campaign in which the team posted a 34-19 overall record while going 17-8 in Ohio Valley Conference action.
UT Martin flirted with several program records last season including ranking second in runs per game (5.79), hits per game (8.23) and runs batted in (278). In total, the Skyhawks return 10 players from last year's squad while adding eight newcomers to the team. The squad features four returning all-conference honorees including first team selection Shyanne Sheffield along with second team picks Kallie Pickens and Kaci Fuller while Avry Blume earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team.
UT Martin will open the season on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Stinger Classic with a matchup against Kennesaw State.
