
THREE SKYHAWKS FIRE CAREER-HIGH SCORES IN SPRING RIFLE OPENER AGAINST MURRAY STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad began the spring portion of its 2022-23 schedule today at Skyhawk Rifle Range, taking on Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State.
The visiting Racers managed a 4,716-4,554 win but UT Martin had plenty of standout individual performances. Alayna Walther led the Skyhawks in aggregate scoring (1,162 points), air rifle points (career-best 590) and smallbore scoring (572). Victoria Petersen also established a new career-high with 579 points in air rifle while Jeffrey Bourassa came away with a career-best 564 smallbore score.
UT Martin posted 2,245 points in smallbore this morning. Following Walther's team-high tally was Joey Kovach (566), Nick Fares (565), Jesse Chamberlain (542) and Petersen (532).
The Skyhawks accumulated a score of 2,309 points in air rifle. After Walther's career-best effort, UT Martin received solid performances out of Fares (577), Kovach (571), Bourassa (571) and Chamberlain (565).
In aggregate, Fares' 1,142 trailed Walther for the team lead. The Skyhawks were rounded out by Kovach (1,137), Bourassa (1,135), Petersen (1,111) and Chamberlain (1,107).
The regular season concludes with a pair of home matches next weekend as UT Martin plays host to UAB on Saturday, Jan. 21 and Memphis on Sunday, Jan. 22. Both matchups will start at 9 a.m.
