
PETERSEN COLLECTS CAREER-BEST AIR RIFLE SCORE ONCE AGAIN AS SKYHAWKS HOST UAB FOR MIDDLE MATCH OF HOMESTAND

MARTIN, Tenn. – Victoria Petersen earned a career-high air rifle score for the second time in as many matches as the University of Tennessee at Martin sophomore collected 581 points this morning against UAB.
Petersen, who shot a 579 last Saturday against Murray State, competed as an individual today. As a team, the Skyhawks registered 4,567 points – compiling scores of 2,321 in air rifle and 2,246 in smallbore. UAB came away with the narrow win after posting 4,572 overall points (2,307 air rifle, 2,265 smallbore).
Freshman Joey Kovach guided UT Martin in aggregate scoring (1,155) for the second time this season and first time since Nov. 5 at Morehead State. The Bedford, Pa. native also topped the Skyhawks with a score of 574 in smallbore while Nick Fares paced UT Martin with 584 points in air rifle.
The Skyhawk air rifle lineup consisted of Fares (584), Alayna Walther (583), Kovach (581), Jeffrey Bourassa (573) and Jesse Chamberlain (568). In smallbore, UT Martin rolled out a scoring lineup of Kovach (574), Walther (570), Fares (563), Chamberlain (539) and Bourassa (530). Petersen also notched a score of 554 as an individual in smallbore.
Kovach barely edged out Walther (1,153) for the team lead in overall points. Fares generated an aggregate score of 1,147 and was followed by Petersen (1,135), Chamberlain (1,107) and Bourassa (1,103).
The Skyhawks face a quick turnaround as they will host Memphis in the regular season finale tomorrow at 9 a.m.
