INAUGURAL CARPENTER/CHANEY CLASSIC NEXT ON TAP FOR SKYHAWK GOLF

MARTIN, Tenn. – Eight of the nine Ohio Valley Conference golf teams will descend upon Tunica, Miss. on April 4-5 for the first-ever Carpenter/Chaney Classic, co-hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin and Morehead State University.
Named after legendary OVC head golf coaches Jerry Carpenter (UT Martin from 2002-20) and Dr. Rex Chaney (Morehead State from 1976-2014), this event is a 54-hole match play format. Carpenter and Chaney combined for five OVC championships and six OVC Coach of the Year awards while overseeing six OVC Championship medalists and four OVC Golfers of the Year.
Each team will feature six players apiece and will play three matches with a winner's bracket and consolation bracket following Round 1. First round matchups were assigned based off GolfStat team rankings and will include No. 1 seed Tennessee Tech against No. 8 seed Tennessee State, the No. 2 seed Skyhawks against No. 7 seed Austin Peay, No. 3 seed Belmont against No. 6 seed Murray State and No. 4 seed Morehead State against No. 5 seed SIUE.
The first round is a split tee start at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 4 while the second round will tee off at approximately 1 p.m. The third and final round will tee off at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5.
Monday's forecast calls for cloudy skies, a high of 73 degrees, low of 57 degrees and 10 mph south winds. Round 3 will take place in conditions that are projected for a high of 68 degrees, low of 55 degrees and 12 mph southwest winds.
The tournament will take place at Tunica National, a par-72 course playing at 7,240 yards. The course was built in 2004 and was designed by PGA Tour member Mark McCumber.
UT Martin's lineup will consist of Tate Chumley (73.5 scoring average), Jacob Uehlein (73.8), Garrett Chumley (74.1), Jonathan Xoinis (74.3), Bryson Morrell (74.5) and Cayden Chambers (75.7).
