SKYHAWK GOLF GOES LOW IN ROUND 2, CURRENTLY TIED FOR FOURTH PLACE AT ELLENDALE INTERCOLLEGIATE

HOUMA, La. – A strong second round performance highlighted the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team's first day at the Ellendale Intercollegiate, hosted by Nicholls.
After accounting for a 298 (+10) in the opening round of today's tournament, the Skyhawks recovered quite nicely for a 286 (-2) this afternoon – joining tournament leader Southeastern Louisiana and current second-place squad North Alabama as the only teams to shoot under par in Round 2.
Through 36 holes, UT Martin is tied with Houston Baptist for fourth place in the 13-team field with a composite score of 584 (+8). The Skyhawks did most of their damage today on par 4's – ranking third in the event with a 4.02 (+10) scoring average on such holes.
Overall, four UT Martin golfers are separated by two strokes for the team lead. Garrett Chumley ranks 16th in the individual standings with a 145 (+1), ranking eighth in the field in par-5 scoring (4.63, -3). He is followed closely by Bryson Morrell (146, +2), Jonathan Xoinis (147, +3) and Cayden Chambers (147, +3). Chambers ranks inside the top-five in the tournament in par-3 scoring (2.88, -1) and pars (27) while Morrell is eighth in the event in par-5 scoring (4.63, -3) and 10th in birdies (seven).
Tate Chumley (150, +6) and Jacob Uehlein (152, +8) are also representing the Skyhawks in the scoring lineup. Tate Chumley ranks 10th in the tournament in par-4 scoring (4.00, E) after the first day.
Uehlein set the pace for UT Martin in Round 1, carding all three of his birdies on the back-nine on the way to a 73. Xoinis produced a 74 that included a pair of birdies while Morrell (75, three birdies) and Garrett Chumley (76, two birdies) also generated countable scores.
Tate Chumley's 77 included two birdies while Chambers also secured a pair of birdies as part of a 74 while playing as an individual.
In Round 2, Garrett Chumley whittled seven strokes off his morning score for a 69 that included two birdies and the Skyhawks' lone eagle of the day (occurring on the par-5, 502-yard Hole No. 16). Morrell (71) and Xoinis (73) both registered a team-best four birdies apiece while Tate Chumley's 73 with three birdies was the final countable tally
Uehlein (79, three birdies) was the final member of UT Martin's scoring lineup while Chambers was responsible for another solid score of 73 – posting 14 pars and one birdie.
The Skyhawks will look to move up the leaderboard during the final round as an 8 a.m. shotgun start is scheduled for tomorrow. The five members of UT Martin's lineup will tee off on Holes 6-9 alongside Troy, Murray State and New Orleans while Chambers will start on Hole No. 14.
