UT MARTIN MEN'S HOOPS TRIES TO CLINCH OVC TOURNAMENT BERTH IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE AT TENNESSEE TECH

MARTIN, Tenn. – A spot in the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Championship tournament is at stake for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team as the Skyhawks put the finishing touches on the regular season at Tennessee Tech. Tipoff from the Hooper Eblen Center is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Currently in a tie for eighth place, the clearest path for UT Martin to qualify for next week's eight-team tournament field is a win against the Golden Eagles and a SIUE loss to Morehead State. The Skyhawks are also involved in another tiebreaking scenario that would seal a postseason berth but would need two other results to go their way.
UT Martin (8-21, 4-13 OVC) is eyeing a season split against its in-state rival as Tennessee Tech claimed a 76-70 win in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Feb. 15. Mikel Henderson scored a game-high 18 points while the Skyhawk frontcourt trio of KK Curry, Chris Nix and Josh Endicott combined for 37 points, 23 rebounds and six blocks but the Golden Eagles overcame a 42-36 halftime deficit.
On Thursday, UT Martin fell 76-69 at Southeast Missouri for its third straight single-digit setback against a top-four OVC squad. KJ Simon led the way with a game-best 24 points while Henderson established a new career-high with 19 points. Bernie Andre chipped in 13 points as the Redhawks made nearly twice as many free throws (25) as the Skyhawks attempted (13).
Tennessee Tech (9-20, 6-10 OVC) is coming off a 92-56 home loss to Tennessee State on Thursday evening. Golden Eagle backcourt mates Jr. Clay and Keishawn Davidson scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, but the visiting Tigers connected on 62.2 percent (23-for-37) of their field goal tries over the final 20 minutes.
In the earlier meeting this season against UT Martin, Kenny White, Jr. (13 points), Amadou Sylla (11 points, 12 rebounds) and Clay (10 points) paced nine different Golden Eagles who scored at least five points.
This game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Brandon Burke (color) will handle the radio call live from courtside locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, plus a link to follow along with live stats, can be found at the top of the webpage.
