MARTIN, Tenn. – The final matchup of the 2022-23 University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian fall schedule takes place on Friday, Nov. 18 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex when the Skyhawks play host to South Dakota State. The meet will start at 10 a.m.
Coming in at No. 9 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association weekly rankings on Tuesday, UT Martin is looking to stay unblemished against Eastern College Athletic Conference foes this season. The Skyhawks defeated ECAC rival Delaware State by a 13-7 margin on the road on Oct. 14 and have also knocked off a pair of conference foes in Dartmouth (9-1 on Oct. 1) and Lynchburg (7-3 on Oct. 29) in scrimmages.
UT Martin is also 2-1 at home this season with its lone setback coming by a slim 10-9 margin to then-No. 7 South Carolina on Oct. 28.
The Skyhawks are 13-3-7 all-time against the Jackrabbits, having won three straight against South Dakota State. UT Martin has never lost to the Jackrabbits inside the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion, going 7-0-2 since the program launched in 2006-07.
The Skyhawks have found their most success this season in fences, combining for 16 victories and two MOP's. Sydney Hott's 81.5 scoring average leads the way while Julia Gilman has won five of her six head-to-head matchups. Both Hott and Gilman have earned one MOP apiece in fences this season.
UT Martin has added 16 more wins and two MOP's in flat, headed by Hott's team-best 83.8 scoring average, four triumphs and pair of MOP's. Haley Kane is also tied with Hott for the team lead with four flat victories.
In reining, the Skyhawks have picked up 10 head-to-head victories while three different riders (Aubrey Malone, Logan Putvinski and Lexi Bailey) have secured MOP accolades. Malone's 70.4 scoring average tops the team while Putvinski is a perfect 4-for-4 in the win column so far this year.
Bailey's 75.3 scoring average guides UT Martin in horsemanship while Kate Davis has posted the team's lone MOP. Davis and Keely Seiter have split the team lead with two head-to-head victories apiece so far in 2022-23.
