MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin's 2021 volleyball squad took the floor for the first time as a group today, starting its fall camp with a practice at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
A dozen players return for UT Martin this fall while head coach Jaclynn Wilson welcomes five newcomers to the fold. The Skyhawks return four full-time starters from 2020-21 although all 12 returnees made at least one start last year.
Karen Scanlon returns after pacing UT Martin in points (183.5), attack percentage (.244) and service aces (12) last season. She also ranked second on the team in kills (158, 2.77 per set), digs (147, 2.58 per set) and blocks (25) while playing in all 57 sets.
Olivia Lucia (11 starts) led the Skyhawks with 27 blocks last season – becoming the first freshman since 2013 to lead UT Martin in that category. Logan Wallick made nine starts and topped the Skyhawks with 163 kills and a 3.02 kills-per-set average while Addison Conley (eight starts) accumulated 2.29 kills per set to round out the returning starters.
Dylan Mott (team-high 208 digs as a freshman), Baillie Kearns (140 digs, nine service aces) and Kayla Carrell (105 digs) each return after seeing extensive playing time at libero in 2020-21.
UT Martin additionally returns Jessica Reynolds (2.57 kills per set), Addy Vaughn (45 kills, 37 assists, 50 digs), Zoe Merriweather (team-best 0.85 blocks per set average), Haeleigh Paulino (two double-doubles) and Kambree Lucas (medical redshirt) from last spring's abbreviated 16-match season.
The Skyhawk newcomers include a trio of NCAA Division I transfers as Olivia Saunders (Wake Forest), Francela Ulate (Binghamton) and Audrey Haworth (Binghamton) have combined for 785 career kills during their collegiate careers. Freshmen Kristin Phillips and Hannah Haislip will also make their UT Martin debuts this fall after standout prep careers at Westfall High School and Halls High School, respectively.
The 2021 volleyball season opener is set for Aug. 27 as the Skyhawks will take on Arkansas State and Wichita State as part of the A-State Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark.
