BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team was well represented on the weekly Ohio Valley Conference soccer awards as freshman Emily van der Vliet was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week while senior Erica Myers was tabbed OVC Goalkeeper of the Week for their standout performances against Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky.
Van der Vliet and Myers helped propel the Skyhawks to a perfect 2-0 week with wins over Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky – outscoring their opponents 7-1 for the week. With the team's strong play, UT Martin clinched a berth in next week's OVC Soccer Championship field as a top-four seed.
Hailing from Rosmalen, Netherlands, van der Vliet became just the second freshman in school history to secure a hat trick to highlight a spectacular week on the pitch. The freshman forward tallied eight total points in the two contests with four goals – including one game-winner – while tallying nine shots on goal in her 11 shot attempts. She began the week with a lone goal against Austin Peay before breaking loose against EKU with goals in the 6th, 13th and 85th minute to propel the Skyhawks to victory. The rare feat makes her just the seventh player in Skyhawk history to post a hat trick and first since 2018.
Myers earned her fifth OVC Goalkeeper of the Week honor of her career after allowing one goal and recording a shutout en route to a perfect 2-0 week between the posts. In 180 minutes of play, the Holland, Ohio native posted a 0.50 GAA and an 88.9 save percentage. In the perfect win against Austin Peay she earned her 17th career shutout before facing a red-hot EKU squad, tallying eight saves to limit the Colonels to one goal and notch her 29th career victory.
The tandem and the rest of the Skyhawks will close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 6 when playing host to Southeast Missouri. First touch from Skyhawk Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
