PAIGE CLARK NAMED OVC SOFTBALL PLAYER TO WATCH

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin junior outfielder Paige Clark has been named one of 12 Ohio Valley Conference Softball Players to Watch while the Skyhawks were picked to finish seventh in the conference standings in a vote of the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Clark returns for her fourth season after starting in all 22 games for the Skyhawks in a COVID-abbreviated season in 2020 where she posted a .319 batting average, scored 16 runs and tallied five doubles, one home run and 14 RBIs. She recorded a .372 on-base percentage while swiping eight stolen bases to rank sixth in the OVC.
A native of Lafayette, Tenn., Clark was a 2019 NFCA All-Region third team performer and All-OVC second team selection after boasting a .383 batting average with 62 hits, four doubles, four triples and 24 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. For her career, she ranks fifth in program history with a .336 batting average and eighth with 54 stolen bases.
UT Martin is coming off 12-10 season with second-year head coach Brian Dunn at the helm. The Skyhawks feature a young but talented squad including 13 returners and eight newcomers.
Southeast Missouri was picked to win the OVC after garnering 13 of the 24 first-place votes and 228 points overall while Eastern Kentucky was tabbed second with nine first place votes and 224 points. Jacksonville State also tallied two first place votes and 211 points while Murray State rounded out the top-four with 167 points. SIUE (151), Austin Peay (143), UT Martin (109), Tennessee Tech (97), Eastern Illinois (92), Belmont (88), Tennessee State (34) and Morehead State (32) completed the poll.
UT Martin opens the 2021 season next weekend at the Lady Demon Classic in Natchitoches, La. on Friday, Feb. 12 with four games.
