
UT MARTIN SOCCER PICKED TO FINISH FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL; ERICA MYERS TABBED PLAYER TO WATCH

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team has been picked to finish fourth in the quest for the 2020-21 Ohio Valley Conference women's soccer title as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. In additional to the team honors, senior goalkeeper Erica Myers was tabbed as one of 11 OVC Soccer Players to Watch.
Murray State was picked to win the OVC after tabbing five of the 22 first-place votes and 181 points while Southeast Missouri garnered seven first place votes to finish second with 172 points. SIUE also garnered six first place votes to tabulate 167 points while the Skyhawks notched two first place votes and rounded out the top-four with 156 points. Belmont (128), Tennessee Tech (119), Austin Peay (80), Eastern Illinois (75), Eastern Kentucky (62), Morehead State (47) and Jacksonville State (23) complete the poll.
UT Martin is coming off an 8-6-5 overall mark while going 6-2-2 during league play to finish in third place. The Skyhawks are under the direction of head coach Phil McNamara who enters his 11th season at the helm of the program and boasts a roster which returns 16 players and welcomes seven newcomers. McNamara is approaching career victory No. 100 at UT Martin after achieving a mark of 98-81-20 in his 10 previous seasons.
Myers returns for her senior season to put a wrap on a decorated career. The Holland, Ohio native ranks amongst program leaders in several career categories including victories (24, second), shutouts (13, second), minutes (4866, second), matches played (54, third), saves (224, fifth) and goals against average (1.39, sixth).
After garnering All-OVC first team honors as a sophomore, Myers posted an 8-6-5 record in goal as a junior along with five shutouts. She recorded 1.54 goals against average while notching a 77.0 save percentage with 104 saves on the campaign.
UT Martin opens the season on 2020-21 conference-only season on March 2 when playing host to Eastern Illinois at Skyhawk Field.
