BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin racked up four Ohio Valley Conference golf accolades today as the league announced that Jack Story, Ross Redmont and Nick Wolf made the All-OVC team while Jacob Uehlein was named to the All-OVC Newcomer squad.
Today's announcement marks the first time in program history that four Skyhawks earned All-OVC honors in the same season, topping the previous record of three set in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018. It is also the first time that UT Martin has ever claimed three golfers on the 10-man All-OVC list in the same season.
Story earns an All-OVC accolade for the first time in his career, becoming just the 10th different Skyhawk to ever nab a spot on that list. The senior from Dickson, Tenn. ranked second in the OVC with a 71.0 scoring average over nine tournaments, leading the Skyhawks in eagles (eight), birdies (106), par-4 scoring (3.95) and par-5 scoring (4.67). He earned a pair of medalist victories amongst his six top-8 finishes, topping the field at the Murray State Invitational (Sept. 9-10) and the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate (Oct. 14-15). Not only did he win OVC Golfer of the Week status three times this season, but he also became the first UT Martin representative to ever bring home OVC Golfer of the Month honors when he accomplished that in September.
A redshirt senior out of Memphis, Tenn., Redmont joins Skyhawk greats Brendon Caballero and Hunter Richardson as the only players in school history to garner All-OVC status in back-to-back seasons. Redmont finished seventh in the OVC with a 71.9 stroke average, participating in 20 rounds spread out over seven events. He dialed up 68 birdies and accounted for 11 rounds of par or better. He placed in the top-6 in four different tournaments, including season-best fourth-place efforts at the Murray State Invitational (Sept. 9-10) and the Grover Page Classic (March 9-10). He was named the OVC Golfer of the Week on March 4, winning that honor for the first time in his storied career.
Wolf is now one of only five golfers in UT Martin history to win All-OVC accolades twice in a career. He ranked ninth in the league with a 72.3 scoring average, leading the squad with a 3.13 par-3 scoring average. The junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. took part in 26 rounds over nine tournaments, sinking three eagles to go along with 75 birdies. He carded par or better on 10 different occasions, including a season-best score of 69 in three separate rounds. He came away with four top-8 tournament finishes, equaling a career-best with a second-place finish at the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational on Oct. 21-22. He became only the second player in school history to win OVC Golfer of the Month accolades, bringing home that title in October.
Uehlein becomes only the 10th Skyhawk to ever claim a spot on the All-OVC Newcomer team, all of which have come under the direction of head coach Jerry Carpenter. Uehlein displayed immense potential as a true freshman, participating in all 26 rounds in nine tournaments. The Tullahoma, Tenn. native cracked UT Martin's scoring lineup in five different events, delivering 10 countable scores out of 15 opportunities. He tapped in 67 birdies on the season while shooting par or below-par on seven different occasions (including a career-best 69 in the first round of the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational on Sept. 23). He earned three top-20 finishes, including a career-best sixth-place performance in the Grover Page Classic on March 9-10.
Although the OVC Golf Championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, golf was unique in that when the season ended in March, over 71 percent of the scheduled contests for the year had been completed. That combined with the fact that golf does not play a conference schedule, it was deemed there was enough statistical data to award the All-OVC and All-Newcomer team honors. However, it was decided the Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year honors would not be awarded this year since the Championship was not conducted.
