MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team looks to get back in the win column against Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech on Thursday, Feb. 6. The game, which is serving as Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. (following the women's game as the backend of a doubleheader).
The Skyhawks (6-15, 2-8 OVC) have won each of their last two home outings against the Golden Eagles, having not lost to Tennessee Tech in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center since 2014. That includes a 77-58 triumph last season as Quintin Dove powered UT Martin with game-highs of 24 points and a career-best 15 rebounds.
Dove and Parker Stewart are each coming off impressive weeks for the Skyhawks. Dove was responsible for 29.5 points and 11.0 points per game, including a career-high 35 points at Eastern Kentucky and a 24-point, game-high 13-rebound effort at Morehead State. Stewart piled up 25.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest, leading to his fifth OVC Newcomer of the Week accolade. He went off for a career-best 33 points at Morehead State (his fourth 30-plus point game of the season).
This matchup includes two of the OVC's best teams at crashing the offensive boards. UT Martin tops the league in offensive rebounding (11.4 per game) while the Golden Eagles lead in that same category in conference play (11.4 per contest).
Tennessee Tech (5-18, 2-8 OVC) is looking to snap a three-game losing streak, as each setback came by single digits at home (80-74 against Eastern Kentucky, 92-84 against Belmont, 72-67 in overtime against Tennessee State).
Jr. Clay pieced together a remarkable all-around performance last Saturday against Tennessee State, accumulating a game-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Hunter Vick - who scored a team-high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range against UT Martin last season - chipped in 15 points against Tennessee State.
ESPN+ will stream the game live while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Eddie Suiter (color) will be in charge of the radio call locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, as well as a link to follow along with live stats, can be found above.
