UT MARTIN MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM KICKS OFF BLUEGRASS STATE SWING WITH THURSDAY TILT AT EASTERN KENTUCKY

MARTIN, Tenn. – Coming off its first Ohio Valley Conference road win of the season, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad opens the second leg of its two-week road trip with a Thursday, Jan. 30 matchup at Eastern Kentucky. Tipoff time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST.
The Skyhawks (6-13, 2-6 OVC) have won three out of their last four visits to McBrayer Arena, with the lone loss coming last season. Due to UT Martin's 2015 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament win in Richmond and a flipped league schedule, this is the ninth time that the Skyhawks will play the Colonels on the road over the last decade (with another jaunt to Richmond on tap for the 2020-21 season).
Both of these teams have identical 76.1 points per game scoring averages in OVC play and boast two of the country's most lethal sophomore scorers in UT Martin's Parker Stewart (22.0 points per game in league outings) and Eastern Kentucky's Jomaru Brown (league-best 23.6 points per contest against OVC foes).
The Skyhawks soared to a come-from-behind 79-76 triumph at SIUE last Saturday, marking just the second UT Martin win this season after trailing with five minutes remaining (the other coming against Boston University on Nov. 27). The Skyhawks handed out 20 assists on 26 made field goals - reaching the 20-assist plateau for the first time since Dec. 30, 2018 - while committing only eight turnovers.
After concluding nonconference play with eight consecutive losses, the Colonels (9-12, 6-2 OVC) have righted the ship, sitting in third place in the OVC standings. Eastern Kentucky currently sits atop the league in steals (9.2 per game) and turnover margin (+4.52).
Brown has been scorching hot as of late for the Colonels, dialing up an average of 30.7 points over his last three games (92 points in 91 minutes played). On Nov. 15, he pumped in 41 points against Western Kentucky - which ranks as the highest scoring individual performance in the OVC this season.
This game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Alex Boggis (color) will call all the action live from courtside on your radio dial at WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, plus a link to track live stats, can be found at the top of the webpage.
