MARTIN, Tenn. – A season-long homestand for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team continues as the Skyhawks and Murray State Racers square off for the second time in two weeks. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is set for Thursday, Jan. 16 at approximately 7:30 p.m. (following the completion of the women's game).
In addition to the women's and men's basketball doubleheader, UT Martin officials will unveil a new alternate logo on Thursday. In early November, Skyhawk students, faculty, staff and alumni voted on three finalist marks with one being added to the current lineup of UT Martin logos.
These two squads opened Ohio Valley Conference play against each other on Jan. 2 as the Racers prevailed by an 89-76 margin in Murray. In that game, UT Martin shaved an 18-point first-half deficit to six with 13 minutes remaining but Murray State shot 60.9 percent (14-of-23) over the final 20 minutes to claim the win.
Four-time OVC Newcomer of the Week Parker Stewart poured in a career-high 33 points for the Skyhawks in the Jan. 2 game while Quintin Dove (14 points), Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (12) and Eman Sertovic (11) also scored in double figures.
Through four league games, UT Martin (5-10, 1-3 OVC) boasts the most formidable duo in the conference. Stewart tops the OVC in scoring (24.0 points per game) and ranks third in assists (4.8 per game) while Dove ranks in the top-three in both scoring (22.5 points per game, third) and rebounding (9.5 per game, second) in league play. Dove also ranks fourth nationally with 4.2 offensive rebounds per contest.
Exactly half of the Skyhawks' six all-time victories against the Racers have come since 2016. During that same span, UT Martin and Murray State have split the four meetings inside the Elam Center.
The Racers (11-5, 4-0 OVC) are one of two undefeated teams in OVC play after a road sweep (72-68 at Jacksonville State, 81-69 at Tennessee Tech) last week. Murray State leads the league in scoring defense (63.0 points per game), field goal percentage defense (.390), rebounding margin (+9.6) and field goal percentage (.483).
Tevin Brown, who scored a team-high 23 points for the Racers on Jan. 2, has averaged 20.7 points on 50 percent shooting from three-point range (14-of-28) in three career games against the Skyhawks.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Eddie Suiter (color) will handle broadcasting duties locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, in addition to a link for live stats, can be found at the top of the webpage.
