NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman University of Tennessee at Martin standout Lexi Ray was honored by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on this afternoon, being named TSWA Pitcher of the Week after her standout performance against Tennessee Tech.
Ray, a native of Louisville, Ky., recorded a piece of history in UT Martin's 15-0 victory against Tennessee Tech last week, notching the program's third perfect game in history. She tossed just 50 pitched and faced the minimum of 15 batters while striking out two en route to a five-inning perfect game. The perfect game marked just the third in program history – joining Megan Mizell (2005) and Ashton Strode (2007) – while serving as eighth no-hitter.
Along with her victory against Tennessee Tech, Ray made three appearances last week, going 1-1 with a 1.34 ERA in 15.2 innings of work. She tallied a pair of complete game starts along with 4.2 innings of one-hit relief against Memphis earlier in the week. As a whole, she held opponents to a .118 batting average while striking out 10 and walking three.
On the season, Ray has posted an 8-7 record with a 2.90 ERA in 87 innings of work. She has tossed seven complete games along with two shutouts and a save.
Ray and the Skyhawks will close out the regular season on Friday, May 3 against Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
