MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team heads to Nashville to take on regional foe Lipscomb in a midweek showcase. First pitch on Tuesday, April 30 is scheduled for 6 p.m.
UT Martin (18-25) is led by the trio of Casey Harford, Jordan Stoner and Sean Dixson as all are hitting at or above the .300 mark. Harford leads all Skyhawk batters in average (.342), RBIs (34), slugging percentage (.490) and OPS (.887) while also sporting an impressive .397 on base percentage. The middle infielder has shown his ability to swipe bags as he is a perfect 4-for-4 on the base paths this season. Stoner is swinging to the tune of .335 to go along with a squad-best .415 on base percentage. The outfielder from Puyallup, Wash. leads UT Martin in two-baggers (13) and times hit by pitch (14) while also notching six steals this season. Dixson boasts a .300 batting clip to go along with a team-best four triples. The trio of Creighton Eldridge (eight), Blake Davis (seven) and Ethan Whitley (six) are the heavy-hitting Skyhawks in the home run department while Eldridge has also shown he can swipe bases as he is a perfect 8-for-8 this year.
Freshman righty Seth Petry (3-1, 4.32 ERA) is scheduled to toe the rubber against the Bisons in the midweek battle. In his six starts this season, Petry has excelled by posting a 3.00 ERA and recording 18 strikeouts in 21 innings when getting the starting nod and also holding opposing batters to paltry .192 average along the way. Sophomore closer Nick Wohlbold (0-1, 1.91 ERA) has been locked in this year as he has shut the door nine times (most in a single season in program history and tied for most in school history for saves in a career). The hurler from Columbia, Mo. has logged 28.1 innings on the mound this season while fanning 35 and allowing just six earned runs in that span.
Lipscomb (24-19) is led at the plate by the trio of Maddux Houghton, Chris Bashlor and Cade Sorrells. Houghton is blazing the way for the Bisons in batting average (.349), slugging percentage (.526), total hits (53) triples (four) and stolen bases (14) and has also driven in 30 runs. Bashlor sports a respectable .336 batting clip to go along with nine doubles, a three-bagger and three long balls as well as 28 RBIs. Sorrells is connecting for the most productive hits as he leads all Lipscomb batters in RBIs (45) on seven doubles and four homers. He is swinging to the tune of a .315 batting average while also having swiped four bases this season. Tevin Symonette and Haddon Adams have also proven to be threats on the base paths as the two have combined for 20 swipes.
Right-handed pitcher Erik Gutierrez (0-1, 7.65 ERA) got the starting nod in Lipscomb's last midweek contest and could get another go-ahead this week. He has made four starts on the season and has rung up 14 batters across 21 complete innings. Relievers Max Habegger (3-2, 3.97 ERA) and Tyler Guilfoil (2-1, 4.83 ERA) have combined for 53.1 innings pitched and have sat down 85 batters along the way while holding opposing batsmen to averages of .214 and .179, respectively. Closer Robbie Knox (0-2, 4.22 ERA) has notched eight saves in 21.1 innings this season for 13th-year head coach Jeff Forehand.
