MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team is set to host Ohio Valley Conference opponent Austin Peay in a weather-altered series. Due to inclement weather in the area, the series will kick off with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20 beginning at 1 p.m. and the finale to be played on Sunday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
UT Martin (14-22, 4-11 OVC) is led at the dish by Jordan Stoner who sports a team-best .333 batting average to go along with a squad-high 10 two-baggers, trio of long balls and 19 RBIs on the season. Casey Harford has also been a key bat for the Skyhawks as he has notched a .320 batting clip as well as nine doubles and 22 RBIs while Blake Davis has swung the heaviest bat as he has belted a team-high five homers and driven in a squad-best 27 runs.
Right-handed pitcher Austen Bullington (1-6, 5.36 ERA) is scheduled to get the starting nod on Friday. The Newburgh, Ind. native has tossed 43.2 innings and rung up 27 opposing batters in his time toeing the rubber. Lefty Sam Folks (3-4, 3.88 ERA) looks to start on the hill in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader. The southpaw out of Franklin, Tenn. has logged a team-high 55.2 innings and fanned 30 batsmen. Righty Winston Cannon (4-6, 4.29 ERA) is set to toss the series finale. The Cookeville, Tenn. native has logged over 50 innings on the mound while recording a squad-best 53 batters on the year. Nick Wohlbold (0-1, 1.23 ERA) has solidified the closer role for the Skyhawks as he has racked up seven saves and fanned 32 batters across 22 innings.
Austin Peay (19-16, 11-7 OVC) has seen the pair of David Martinez and Garrett Spain blaze the way. Martinez paces the Governors in batting average (.380) while having tallied six doubles, two triples and five homers to go along with 28 RBIs. Spain sports a .358 batting average and has also tallied five long balls and plated a squad-best 38 runs. Parker Phillips has been very productive at the plate as he has racked up a team-high 11 home runs and recorded 33 RBIs. In all, seven Austin Peay batters have notched double-digit RBI numbers on the year.
Lefty Josh Rye (4-3, 4.03 ERA) is slated to get the starting nod in the Friday evening showcase. He has recorded 40 whiffs in nearly 45 innings pitched on the year. Southpaw Jacques Pucheu (5-1, 2.17 ERA) looks to toe the rubber in the first game on Saturday. He is coming off a Pitcher of the Week honor and has been named so three times already this season. He has been extremely effective as he has rung up 70 in 58 innings while having held opposing batters to a paltry .174 batting clip. Right-hander Brandon Vial (3-3, 3.18 ERA) looks to take the hill in the back end of the Saturday twin bill. He has tossed 39.2 innings on the season and has forced 37 to whiff in that span. Greg Leban (2-0, 2.45 ERA) has been a key piece to the Austin Peay bullpen as he has fanned 31 batters in 18.1 innings and has kept them to a minute .172 average under third-year head coach Travis Janssen.
