
SKYHAWK BASEBALL DROPS 4-1 DECISION TO SEMO IN OVC OPENER

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin suffered a 4-1 loss to Southeast Missouri as the Skyhawks kicked off Ohio Valley Conference action this afternoon.
UT Martin (4-9) was led by Blake Daniels who compiled a pair of hits including a home runs to go along with the squad's lone run plated on the day. Casey Harford collected a couple of base knocks while Creighton Eldridge rounded out the hit column for the Skyhawks.
Winston Cannon (1-3) took the loss but put together five solid innings of work. He allowed four hits, four walks and was credited with two earned runs in his time on the bump but fanned six in the contest. Zach Denney logged 0.2 inning but conceded two earned runs in that span. Nick Wohlbold kept up his scoreless streak as he allowed just one hit in 1.1 innings and sat down one Redhawk via the punchout. Marcus Eusebio finished the game and tallied a complete inning of work and gave up one baseknock.
The Skyhawks struck early as Daniels belted a solo shot to left field to claim a 1-0 advantage.
Cannon worked around a leadoff walk in the second to sit the next batter down on strikes and got a pair of friendly fly balls to close out the frame.
Southeast Missouri matched the Skyhawks' run in the third as the Redhawks knotted things up at 1-1.
The fourth inning would see Cannon strike out the side, fanning the first and last batters of the frame.
The Redhawks tallied a run in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead but not before Cannon picked up another strikeout. Southeast Missouri would add on two more runs in the sixth to produce the final score of 4-1 and take the series-opener.
UT Martin continues its series with the Redhawks tomorrow with a first pitch time of 1 p.m. The game can be streamed live on ESPN+.
