HARFORD’S BIG NIGHT NOT ENOUGH AS UTM BASEBALL FALLS 15-9 AT NO. 15 AUBURN

UT Martin (4-7) was led by the electric play of Casey Harford who tallied the program's first 5-for-5 performance since Miles Hartsfield did so on March 4, 2009 against Bethel, the first five-hit performance since current volunteer assistant coach Tyler Albright did so against Bethel on March 7, 2017 and the first five-RBI game since Whitley did so against Morehead State on April 6, 2018. Robert Worley plated a pair of runs while Sean Dixson pushed one run across the plate. Jordan Stoner belted out two hits as the trio of Creighton Eldridge, Tyson Cox and Worley all collected one base knock apiece.
David Hussey drew the starting nod against a ranked opponent for the second straight week as he logged three complete innings, gave up five earned runs and struck out one Tiger along the way. Winston Cannon tossed one inning and conceded an earned run. Jeff O'Doherty (0-1) was credited with the loss as he came on in relief for three innings of work, allowed six earned runs but sat down five via the whiff while Seth Petry clocked in for one inning as he allowed three earned runs.
Blake Daniels got things started in the first frame as he drew a one-out walk followed by a Stoner single through the left side. Worley then stepped up and roped a two-bagger down the right field line to bring both Daniels and Stoner home. A Harford base knock would be good enough to plate Worley to give the Skyhawks an early 3-0 advantage.
Auburn retaliated for a run in the bottom half of the first to inch back 3-1.
UT Martin fired again in the second as Daniels worked a two-out free base as Stoner followed up with a walk himself. Worley would reach on an error that allowed Daniels to score. Harford then tallied a single to right to push both Stoner and Worley across the plate and move the Skyhawk lead out to 6-1.
The Tigers added four runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to knot things up at 6-6.
Billy Edwards would be the first runner to reach in the UT Martin fifth before Cox doubled to left center. A Dixson flyout was enough to bring in Edwards as the Skyhawks reclaimed the lead, 7-6.
Auburn tied the score up again in the fifth at a score of 7-7.
UT Martin took the lead back in the sixth as Stoner led the frame off with a double to right field followed by a Worley groundout to move him over to third. Another Harford single up the middle would bring Stoner home and allow the Skyhawks to take an 8-7 advantage.
The Tigers struck for five runs across the sixth and seventh innings to take their first lead of the ballgame by a score of 12-8.
The Skyhawks added on one more run in the eighth inning as Stoner reached after being plunked by a pitch. Harford's final base hit of the evening (a double) would allow Stoner to scoot across home plate and allow UT Martin to inch closer by a 12-9 margin.
Another three-run Auburn barrage came in the eighth as the Tigers produced the eventual final score of 15-9.
The Skyhawks continue their two-game series against Auburn tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. with the contest to be streamed live on SEC Network+.
