MARTIN, Tenn. – For the first time in University of Tennessee at Martin history, a beach volleyball match will be hosted on campus as the Skyhawks will take on Southern Miss in a double dual on Wednesday, March 13 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The matches will take place at the new UT Martin beach volleyball facility, located on Pat Head Summitt Drive. The facility, which was completed on Feb. 5, features three top-of-the-line sand courts that will be used for the inaugural occasion on Wednesday.
Wednesday's forecast calls for cloudy skies and a high of 71 degrees as the Skyhawks are looking forward to making school history when they hit the sand. This match is one of just two home dates on the 2019 schedule, as UT Martin will also host in-state foe Austin Peay in a double dual on Wednesday, April 17.
The Skyhawks opened their season with 12 matches in nine days throughout the state of Florida. UT Martin competed in two tournaments and a pair of double duals from March 1-9, racking up three team victories while three other results were narrow 3-2 losses.
"It's a really exciting time for our program right now," Skyhawk head coach Jaclynn Wilson said. "The weather is shaping up to be a beautiful setting for beach volleyball. We had several positives come out of our Florida trip and we can't wait to officially take the court for the first time on Wednesday."
UT Martin has used the same five pairings throughout the 2019 season, producing 17 total wins so far. The duo of Megan Fair and Justine Walker lead the way with five victories while the team of Kenzie Hinshaw and Karen Scanlon follows closely behind with four wins. Addison Conley/Logan Wallick have generated three victories while the duos of Brooke Gyori/Hannah Phillips and Lindsey Geurin/Jessica Reynolds have also tallied two wins apiece.
